Memorial Service at Bury

Yesterday

The death took place at her resi-
dence, 28, Crown Street, Bury St.
Edmund's on Saturday, after a
very brief illness, of Mrs Alice
Croasdale, widow of Mr James C.
Croasdale, a well-known local
chemist who died in 1939. Mrs
Croasdale, who was born in 1866,
at Tangley, near Andover, came
to Bury St Edmund's after living
for many years in Bury, Lanca-
shire, where she first became
actively associated with the Moth-
ers' Union, an interest which was
maintained during her life in Bury
St Edmund's. At Bury St Ed-
mund's she joined the St Mary's
Branch, in which from 1926 she
held office as deputy Enrolling
Member and hon. secretary until
her death. For the past ten years
she had served on the Mothers'
Union Diocesan Council. She was
a member of St Mary's Church
and had been a district visitor
for over eighteen years.
She is survived by two sons - Mr
A. Croasdale, of Ipswich, and Mr
J. Croasdale, and one daughter,
Miss D. Croasdale, of Bury St. Ed-
mund's
Deceased lady was buried yester-
day (Thursday) in the grave of her
husband at his native place, Hav-
erthwaite, near Lakeside, Wind-
ermere
At a memorial service held yes-
terday in St Mary's Church, at-
tended by many members of the
Mothers' Union, the Rev A C
Pelly (vicar) officiated, and the
hymns "Let Saints on earth in
concert sing" and "O Love that
wilt not let me go" were sung
