LAKESIDE
A very interesting marriage ceremony took place at Finsthwaite Church on Tuesday last, the officiating member being the Rev S Inman. The contracting parties were Mr George Croasdell, second son of Mr James Croasdell, timber merchant, Haverthwaite, and Miss Polly Knowles, third daughter of Mr Roger Knowles, proprietor of the Swan Hotel, Newby Bridge. The bride looked charming, and wore a slate coloured silk dress; she was attended by four bridesmaids, who wore silver grey dresses. The bride was given away by her father. The party on emerging from the church were treated to a goodly shower of rice. They returned to the Swan Hotel, where a choice breakfast was prepared for them by Mrs Knowles; a large number of relatives and friends were also in attendance and joined the happy pair at the festive board. Early in the afternoon the newly married couple drove off to Grange in order to join the express train for the south of England, where they intended spending their honeymoon, carrying with them hosts of congratulations. By way of adding further pleasure to the occasion Mr and Mrs Knowles gave a supper to a large circle of friends. The large coffee room was afterwards converted into a ballroom, where both old and young joined in the light fantastic. The dancing was kept up with much spirit and enthusiasm till the small hours of the morning. The presents were both numerous, costly and useful.
